CREDIT

It’s for editors

CREDIT is a webinar series for copy editors, which offers the following:

A four-part series = one area of focus, 4 webinars of one hour each. One week apart.

It’s for professional development

The webinar topics are for all copy editors, new and experienced. In making things better, we make things stronger. The CREDIT series aims to do just that:

  • Develop your awareness of the nuances of your craft;
  • Enhance your sense of responsibility as an editor;
  • Embrace a sense of proactivity in your editing journey; and
  • Create a feeling of expansiveness about work that you can access.

Each series includes an ebooklet with summaries of the webinar content. Each webinar includes discussion time for shared learning and colleague interaction.

But mostly, it’s for good

I’m using editing to make things better: better for editors, and better for others. All profits raised through CREDIT will be forwarded to an identified need.

You can register for CREDIT 1 here.

All three CREDIT series will be offered again in 2026. The rate remains unchanged (R350 for four webinars and an ebooklet). The dates have been scheduled as follows:

  • Series 1: Editing Etiquette (May 5, 12, 19, 26)
  • Series 2: Finding and keeping work (July 7, 14, 21, 28)
  • Series 3: Editing arenas: Same but different (October 6, 13, 20, 27)

CREDIT 1: Editing etiquette

This webinar series covers these four topics:

  1. Author’s voice – so you can understand your authors.
  2. Editing overkill – so you can know your boundaries.
  3. Plain language – so you can ensure copy is accessible.
  4. Conscious and inclusive language – so no harm is done.

Hone your skills. For good.

Credit should be given where credit is due. A friend was selected to represent our country overseas but had to raise their own funds. They had helped me in a time of need and I wanted to help them. I couldn’t offer anything grand or obvious immediately but knew I wanted to contribute. People deserve to be supported when there’s good reason to do so. I wondered what I could do to raise funds – maybe ‘sell’ something to others for a small fee that could then be paid forward to a worthy cause?

And so CREDIT was born: I’m giving credit where it’s due and using editing to make things better.

The three Credit series of 2025 raised funds to support women in sports, children’s literature, a school library project, people with disabilties, a marimba band, emerging authors and editors in need, language practitioners, trans youth, women affected by GBV, children without families and a community-led clean up project. Nine provinces were touched. CREDIT is making things better: better for others and better for editors.
